South Korean imports of wood pellets in October eased off a touch from a year-to-date high set in September, down 1% on the month to 216,425 mt, according to customs data Wednesday.

Total Korean pellet imports in the January-October period rose to 1.47 million mt, nearly four times greater than the amount imported over the corresponding 2013 period.

Vietnam was the largest supplier of pellets to Korea in September, although a downward trend continued for a second successive month, with the country shipping 74,146 mt, down 4% on September.

Shipments from Canada dropped 26% on-month to 36,096 mt in September, while those from China were up 29% to a year-to-date high of 44,939 mt, making it Korea's second largest supplier during October.

Year-to-date Korean pellet imports broke the 1 million mt barrier in August, with the country importing just 484,668 mt of pellets over the whole of 2013.
