Power generation from Turkey's three largest hydro dams reached 3.7 TWh over the first quarter of the year, up 147% on the 1.5 TWh generated over the same quarter in 2015, data from state generating company EUAS showed according to a report from state news agency Anatolia late Monday.

The sharp rise in generation was largely due to increased precipitation, the report said.

The three dams -- 2.405 GW Ataturk, 1.8 GW Karakaya and 1.33 GW Keban -- are located on the Euphrates river in southeast Turkey.

They generate a combined 14.8 TWh in 2015, or 27% of Turkey's annual power consumption, Anatolia reported.

During 2016 the Karakaya dam is expected to generate 7 TWh compared with 4.6 TWh in 2015, Ataturk 10 TWh compared with 5:4 TWh, and Keban 6 TWh compared with 4.7 TWh.
