Polyvinyl chloride import spot pricing in Peru continued to rise this week as both buyers and sellers indicated levels were pushing up toward the $900/mt CFR level.

In Peru, import pricing rose $20/mt, assessed Wednesday at $845-$855/mt CFR basis as talk centered around rising prices from the US and regionally sourced material.

The increase marks a sixth consecutive week-on-week gain. The assessment has risen $120/mt since the March 16 assessment of $730/mt CFR basis.

US-origin material is being offered at $875/mt CFR Cartagena, a Colombia-based buyer said, adding that it is too expensive.

Seller sources indicated last week that Peru and the West Coast of South America could be impacted by the explosion last week at the vinyl chloride monomer plant in the Pajaritos petrochemicals complex in Mexico's southern Gulf state of Veracruz.

Mexican producer Mexichem suffered an explosion at its joint-venture Pajaritos VCM plant last Wednesday, which caused it to declare a force majeure on multiple products Friday, including VCM and ethylene in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.

Market participants indicated that pinpointing pricing in Peru and the surrounding region was difficult due to uncertainty surrounding the blast, as well as awaiting new pricing for the month from US producers.
