Exelon Generation's 849-MW FitzPatrick nuclear reactor in Scriba, New York, was operating at 99% of capacity early Wednesday as the unit began "a coastdown to the next refueling and maintenance outage," Neil Sheehan, a spokesman for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Region I, said in an interview.
FitzPatrick had been operating at 100% since March 4, following a March 1-3 power reduction to conduct a fuel rod pattern exchange, according to NRC's daily reactor status reports.
The plant's spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment.
So-called coastdown periods vary in duration from several days to several weeks. The average duration of refueling outages at US nuclear units in 2017 was 34.9 days, according to S&P Global Platts data. |
